The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities living within the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
